How We Got Started

5402 was born in dorm room 5402 of Markley Hall at the University of Michigan, where we spent countless late nights analyzing companies and debating investment ideas. What started as passionate discussions about undervalued stocks and market inefficiencies evolved into a shared vision: to create research that investors actually want to read.

Frustrated by the verbose, conflicted research dominating the industry, we set out to build something different. We kept the name 5402 as a reminder of where it all began—and our commitment to the curiosity and rigor that drove those early conversations.
